FIBRE, AS PREVENTION AGAINST DISEASE

Hunters, gatherers, this is us 12,000 years ago. Our digestive system is adapted to eating solid food, digesting it, absorbing it. We have teeth to chew food mechanically, we don't have fangs to tear raw meat. We have perfectly adapted molars for the mechanical mastication of plant and animal food. Also our enzymes, the structure of our digestive system is built for digesting a mixed diet.
For our smooth digestion, fibre is of great importance in the long run. Fibre is a component of our food that is present in the plant kingdom. Basically everything plant contains fibre: vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds or cereals, apart from oils. By following a varied, balanced diet composed primarily of fresh, minimally processed foods, I can easily get enough of it.

Why is fibre so often mentioned in connection with digestion?

Fibre, especially insoluble fibre, is not digested in our body and passes through our digestive tract almost unchanged. It forms a bulk in our intestines, slowing down the passage of food through the intestines and therefore causing slower absorption, which is positive. This fibre has the ability to "cleanse" the digestive tract, promote natural bowel movement, and has the role of a natural detox of the digestive system. The other variant of fibre is soluble fibre, which is also digestible by our body. And the point comes in that this fiber is digestible by our gut microbiome, our inhabitants in the colon. The microbiome is a vast microscopic world of microorganisms namely bacteria, yeast, even viruses that live in symbiosis with each other but also with us. These microorganisms must also be honestly cared for by us to keep them happy and to maintain a careful balance. So our microbiome has the task of what is called biological digestion of digestible fibre, which is present again in fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, seeds. The more varied our diet is, the more our microscopic inhabitants like it and the better it affects our health.

Are we currently consuming enough fibre?

No. That's what the statistical information, the world authorities say. The global recommendation is to increase fibre consumption, because we are eating more and more processed foods at the expense of fresh, fibre-rich foods. This, too, is resulting in a globally worsening state of public health. The prevention of many diseases must be carried out in good time, not least through sufficient daily consumption of fibre. The World Health Organisation recommends consuming 400 grams of fruit and vegetables in 1 day. Now this may seem like a very high number, but we can easily achieve this by combining, for example, berries for breakfast, an apple for a snack, vegetable soup, garnishes in the form of a leaf salad and also freeze-dried fruit as a super snack. This style makes the daily recommended amount of fibre (25-30g) a breeze.

In addition to our lyophilized fruit you can also increase your fibre intake with our nuts, which you can also blend with FitStream PRO.
